Hypnotherapy is one of the best methods to quit smoking. People have various misunderstandings regarding hypnotherapy, most of which include false reports. This article includes 7 questions you might have about hypnotherapy, and their answers.

1) What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy which uses hypnosis to address your subconscious, which is the most important part of your mind as it is responsible for your habits, feelings and thoughts. Hypnosis sends the conscious critical mind in a relaxed state, however, it does not make you forget the hypnosis session as shown in movies. As mentioned earlier, your subconscious is active and is more open to suggestions.

To read more about hypnosis, visit Hypnosis Help Center.

2) Is Hypnotherapy safe?

As opposed to popular myths, hypnotists can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do. You are always in control and can opt out of the treatment if you don’t want to continue. As long as your hypnotherapist is trained and certified by a reputable organization, you don’t need to worry.

3) Does it really work?

According to New Scientist, “hypnotherapy is the most effective way of giving up smoking.” The success rate of hypnotherapy was found to be 30%, which is higher than any other methods of quitting smoking.

To read more about the success rates, visit New Scientist.

4) Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects of hypnotherapy because you are only addressing the triggers that prompt you to smoke. You are not using your willpower or your mental strength to avoid smoking. You don’t have to find any new activities to replace your smoking habits and there are no medications involved in this treatment.

5) I heard it did not work for some people. Why?

For hypnotherapy to work, you should attend the sessions with an open mind. No one should be forced to try hypnotherapy. You should really want to change your smoking habit for the treatment to work. Furthermore, listening to hypnotherapy on DVD/CD or a seminar is much less effective than having a personalized session with a specialist.

6) How many sessions will I need?

Hypnotherapy for smoking cessation usually takes only one session. The therapist will spend sufficient amount on each and every part of your reasons or needs for smoking. Some therapists may advise you to take 3 sessions, however, most of them do it in one session with a potential for a follow up.

7) How do I choose a Hypnotherapist?

You should search for a hypnotherapist that is properly trained and is able to perform the session in person. Try to find a smoking cessation specialist as he/she will largely help you to quit smoking. You should also call them, or inquire about any doubts that you might have about hypnotherapy. It is always a good idea to visit their blog or website to check their qualifications and successful stories.

If you are reading this article, you probably want to know the next top 5 methods to quit smoking. Continuing with the article last week, here is a list of 5 methods that people use to quit smoking and one of these methods will shock you:

5) Nasal Sprayscollection-716809_1280

Nicotine nasal sprays pumps nicotine through your nostrils. It works in the same way as a cold or allergy relief medicine. It helps replace the nicotine addiction caused by smoking cigarettes.

Nasal sprays are more effective because nicotine is absorbed faster through the nasal cavity. It goes directly into the bloodstream just like it does by smoking cigarettes. Nasal sprays have a success rate similar to that of patches, gums and other Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRTs).

Via QuitSmokingSupport

4) Herbal Cigarettes

Herbal cigarettes are free of tobacco and nicotine and are non-addictive. Unlike NRTs, herbal cigarettes use psychological effect to help you quit smoking. It consists of herbs that are flavored and especially treated to help you stay away from cigarettes.

Some of the herbs that make up a herbal cigarette are: Passion flower, Rose petals, Lotus leaf, Licorice root, Corn silk, Jasmine, Red clover flowers and Ginseng. Herbal cigarettes and herbal remedies have the same success rate.

3) Acupunctureacupuncture-656578_1280

For people who dislike drugs, acupuncture is a better option.  In this treatment, thin acupuncture needles are inserted in the pressure points of the ear. The cranial nerves, that can be accessed through the ear, are used to stimulate the nervous system in such a way that the smoking cravings are reduced. Acupuncture also promotes the brain to release endorphins which in turn relaxes the patient.

Patients are also given ‘ear seeds’, is a type of acupressure, where tiny balls are placed on the targeted areas of the ear using adhesive tape. These ear seeds can be pressed when the urge to smoke arises. According to New Scientist, acupuncture has a success rate of 24% and are more successful in helping quitters as compared to NRTs.

2) Inhalers

Nicotine inhalers are similar to asthma inhalers. The inhaler is pumped inside the mouth and nicotine is inhaled whenever a craving occurs. However, the doses are calculated and nicotine is released in vapor form.

The cartridge that contains nicotine is designed to last 20 minutes. It also helps the smoker carry something in his hand which is similar to the habit of carrying a cigarette. Nicotine inhalers are also a part of NRTs and have been criticized for their success rates based on impractical ways of experiment.

1) Hypnosis

meditation-1837347_1280

Hypnosis is the most underrated and useful method known to help people quit smoking. It is effective because it addresses your subconscious, which is essentially responsible for your habits. It also tackles all the triggers that urge you to smoke. It is easier than using willpower where you have to focus on constantly stopping yourself from smoking or finding new activities to replace your smoking habits.

Unlike other therapies, where you might start developing unhealthy habits such as constantly eating resulting in weight gain, hypnosis has no side effects. It sends the person into a deep and relaxed state where they are more open to suggestions. Hypnotherapists focus on changing the thought patterns of the smoker. They will make suggestions such as ‘I don’t need a cigarette’ or ‘Cigarette smoke makes me nauseous’. According to New Scientist, the most effective way for smokers to quit smoking is hypnosis. The success rate of hypnosis is almost 30 percent! Furthermore, success rate as high as 66% has been noted for quitters who attended at least 4 hypnotherapy sessions. Some hypnotherapists take up to three sessions, however, most specialists do it in one long session with a potential for a follow up.

If you are looking for the most reliable method to help you quit smoking, then, hypnotherapy is the perfect choice. There are different hypnosis techniques which have different effects on people. Some hypnotherapists use the common technique with suggestions which simply help you to quit.  However, some hypnotherapists specialize in certain areas such as anxiety, weight loss, phobias and a few others. You can visit any hypnotherapist, however, I would recommend visiting a specialist for smoking cessation. A smoking cessation specialist will address every single trigger that makes you smoke and will help you replace each one of them. A longer time might be spent in an individual session but it will be done only to ensure that every part of your needs, wants, and reasons for smoking are taken care of.

If you want to quit smoking, you have to be informed of every single method that can help you through the process. Unfortunately, the information being presented in paid advertisements is either half true or flawed. So, if you are reading this, you have successfully found a factual and reliable list of methods that can help you quit smoking. Now that you have passed the first step in your mission, have a look at the list of 5 methods that people commonly use to quit smoking:

10) Patches and Gums

stress-1277561_1280

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) includes nicotine patches and gums. Nicotine patches are placed on your upper arm to supply you with a low level of nicotine which is absorbed by the skin. The steady flow is then inserted into the blood stream so that your body is not completely deprived of nicotine.

Nicotine gums are medical chewing gums to prevent smoking cravings. When you chew the gum, a low amount of nicotine content is released in your mouth. When you feel a tingling sensation, you move the gum to the side of your mouth and place it there. When the tingling is gone, you start chewing it again and repeat the procedure.

Patches and gums are the least effective methods to quit smoking as they only have a success rate of 7%. Using your willpower has a higher success rate when compared to patches and gums. Studies that show these patches and gums are 40% – 50% successful are inaccurate and flawed. Firstly, people who take part in these studies get free patches and gums. They are frequently tested, visit the hospital routinely, receive free counseling, and are paid to be a part of the study. All these factors strongly affect the results because in real life, no smoker is worried that his quitting habits will influence the results of a study. Also, being paid is a strong incentive and can positively alter the results of the study.

9) Willpower

Willpower requires the use of ‘self-talk’ and mental strength. First, you motivate yourself to start the journey. Then in case of a craving, you talk yourself out of smoking a cigarette and you convince yourself that you must continue the process.

One of the willpower strategies include ‘Cold Turkey’, where a smoker quits cigarettes abruptly using only his willpower to fight against his cravings. It is accomplished without using any medical products or seeking professional help. It is to be noted that smoking habits are avoided by changing the daily routine and taking part in new activities.

Research has shown that willpower is more effective than NRTs. According to New Scientist, willpower has a success rate of 6%. Even though it is lower than patches and gums, it must be kept in mind that their claims of doubling the quit rate are based on unrealistic experimentation.

Via ICanQuit

8) Support Groupswomen-1598153_1280

Support groups can be found in hospitals, volunteering organizations and community centers. You are more likely to be influenced by successful quitting stories because human beings are highly effected by people around them. Thus, you join a support group to compare your quitting plan with the rest of the group, share your stories and the progress you make. Once you announce your commitment in front of people, it helps you stay true to your word.

According to the Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence Clinical Practice Guideline, the success rate of support groups is 1.3% – 1.5%. Support groups start with the educational approach, where the group leaders talks about the reasons behind addiction, and different methods to quit smoking. The second approach involves discussion between peers and group counseling.

Via Health

7) Herbal Remedies

There are certain herbs that help people quit smoking. For example, Licorice is a herb used to prevent coughs and irritation in the lungs caused by respiratory diseases. It can also restore your energy and reduce exhaustion while you are suffering from smoking withdrawals.

Oats can also help you during smoking withdrawals. It helps reduce insomnia, stress, depression and anxiety. Wild oat tea is also recommended to smokers who want to quit. Some other herbs that help you in the process of quitting are: Calamus, Catnip, Korean Ginseng and Passionflower.

Although a study claimed that a herb combined with a counseling session boosted the quit rate by 37.5%, there have been little or none evidence of herbal remedies and high success rates.

Via Flowingfree

6) Lozengesdrug-621843_1280

Nicotine lozenges, like nicotine gums, are also consumed orally. However, they are not chewed but are allowed to be dissolved in the mouth. You can’t eat or drink while taking nicotine lozenges and they take almost 30 minutes to dissolve.

Lozenges are known to have a success rate similar to other nicotine replacement therapies. It works on the same principle as other NRTs, where a steady amount of nicotine is ingested so that withdrawals are easier to bear. However, make sure to consult your pharmacist or your doctor before starting this treatment.

Smoking cigarettes is a dangerous habit.

We have heard it, read it and learned it our entire lives. We know smoking causes health problems that, in some cases, can lead to death. But, some of us still smoke. According to the World Health Organization, five million deaths are reported every year due to the direct use of tobacco.

Why?

Because, we never properly research and educate ourselves to find out how smoking affects our system. We rarely read about the life threatening diseases caused by smoking.

Simply put, we never stop to think that we could be one of the people adversely affected by smoking. So here is a list of 6 potential health risks of smoking that will make you rethink your decision:

1. Cancer

cancer-389921_1280

Smoking can cause cancer in any part of the human body. It has been linked to lung, liver and collateral cancer due to the use of tobacco. Even though breast cancer and prostate cancer have also been linked to smoking, the claim has not been proven yet. Additionally, cancer patients are advised to quit smoking so that their odds of surviving can be improved. Therefore, a person who smokes cigarettes has an increased risk of developing cancer than a person who does not smoke.

Smoking can also increase the risk of mouth, throat, larynx, and esophagus cancer. The National Cancer Institute has reported that, if a person quits smoking by the age of 40, he/she reduces their chance of dying by smoking-related diseases by about 90 percent.

2. Cardiovascular Disease

Stroke and heart diseases are also potential health risks caused by smoking. According to UAE medical experts, one in two deaths are caused by cardiovascular diseases, and one of their leading causes include smoking.

Smoking cigarettes can damage blood vessels, increase blood pressure, and damage the muscle of the heart.  A study from Rashid Hospital in UAE stated that in the year 2013, 50% of the patients of heart attacks were smokers.

It is to be noted that non-smokers, in the presence of cigarette smoke, can also develop cardiovascular diseases because breathing secondhand smoke is dangerous for the heart.

3. Integumentary and Digestive Systemdiabetes-1724617_1280

According to Dr. Minal Patwardhan, a UAE-based dermatologist, smoking causes premature ageing and wrinkling of the skin. It also negatively affects the healing of a wound.

Tobacco use is also a cause of inflamed and infected gums which results in tooth decay, tooth loss and bad breath. Smoking also effects insulin levels and can increase a person’s chances of developing type 2 diabetes. It is also known to create a decline in the appetite which leads to deficiency of nutrients in the body.

4. Pulmonary and Respiratory Disease

When cigarette smoke is inhaled, it directly affects the lungs due to the poisonous chemicals present in a cigarette. The lungs are damaged and they fail to filter these chemicals, thus, entrapping them.

The result is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which consists of Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis and affects 50% of lifelong smokers. These diseases restrict breathing and produces shortness of breath by slowly damaging air sacs and swelling the lining of the tubes of the lung.

It is also proved that children, whose parents smoke, have a higher risk of developing pneumonia, bronchitis and asthma attacks.

5. Reproductive System

Smokers have more difficulty in conceiving. According to a fertility awareness survey in the UAE, half of the people did not know that smoking affects 48% of fertility in both males and females.

Smoking is particularly risky for pregnant women. The complications range from miscarriages to premature delivery. A fetus of a pregnant woman who smokes has a higher chance of developing problems such as increased heart rate, low birth weight or respiratory illness.

Moreover, mothers who smoke can give birth to children with birth defects such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).alone-513525_1280

6. Other Chronic Diseases

Nicotine directly affects the central nervous system which makes a person feel energized. Once the effect leaves the body, he/she feels tired and thus consumes more nicotine. Smoking is known to increase the risk of Macular degeneration and poor eyesight.

Other smoking diseases include Crohn’s disease, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and cataracts.

Stop smoking in Abu Dhabi Using Hypnotherapy

If you live in Abu Dhabi or Dubai you are able to stop smoking through multiple methods.

There are obviously the old school ways such as patches, nicotine gum and more. Then people start speaking about hypnosis which sounds like at first glance may sound like some magical or mystical thing however in actual fact – it is the most natural process and you actually experience trance every single day!

In order to explain what it is and why it so effective allow me to just explain that your brain has two parts –

Your conscious brain and your subconscious brain.

Your conscious mind is the part of your mind that you are aware of – this is about 10% of your brain. This is where you do your calculations, you tell yourself to do things – this is where your will power lies etc.

Your subconscious mind is 90% of your brain.

Notice the temprature in the room

Notice any sounds around you.

Notice how fast your heart is beating

Your subconscious mind tracks everything however chances are you were not “consciously” aware of those until i brought them up. So your conscious mind accessed your subconscious.

Same as when you need to remember something! Your conscious mind has to access your subconscious!

OK So What has that got to do with me quitting smoking!

This is why all this is important – smoking is a subconscious habit – and willpower is a conscious habit.

Willpower does ok for a short time however when will power is gone we resort to our habits.

So what has hypnosis got to do with this!

The reason hypnosis is so powerful – is hypnosis is the art and science of speaking to your subconscious mind. To address all the triggers and reasons that you smoke and convince your mind that you dont need to have that habit any more.

Is this guaranteed to work?

Let me start of by saying that hypnosis is not magic and I can never make anyone do something that they do not want to do. You will also find that because I offer a money back guarantee – I will ask someone to convince me they want to quit first.

The reason I do this is because I want to avoid working with people who may have been sent by a parent or spouse. I cannot make anyone do anything they dont want to.

However for those that are extremely serious about quitting – hypnosis is extremely effective because it focuses on replacing all your needs and the reasons you smoke, it addresses all the triggers that prompt you to smoke and addresses the actual “HABIT” of smoking instead of having some random plan that says lets chew gum and hope for the best!

Where can I do this in the UAE? Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

While its still a fairly new concept in the UAE – there are a few hypnotherapists in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. They each have their strengths. I know a number of them and they are all very good, many have their different styles and preffered methods.

I want to be completely upfront and straight with you about myself.

  1. While I have trained with some of the best in the world and am passionate about the field of hypnosis I do not do this full time and so I do not have an office.
  2. As such with my services – I will come to you! I am based in Abu Dhabi and can come to Dubai on a weekend.
  3. In the pictures below you can see I have been trained by the creator of NLP Dr Richard Bandlar and Paul McKenna who is the UK’s best selling personal development author and one of the worlds most famous hypnotists.
  4. Trained by Dr Richard Bandler the creator of NLP

3. I am extremely confident of my techniques that I offer a guarantee – however because I offer a guarantee, I am also selective about the people I work with. I only want to work with people who are serious about quitting for themselves (please do not Contact Me if someone is making you quit!) – this is because I want to ensure a full success rate.

4. The guarantee is simple – I dont want to motivate you to start again (some people may think – awesome Ill get my money back) so instead you have two options. 1. In the unlikely event you do not quit – we donate your investment to a charity. OR 2. You come back for some free sessions to sort it out.

To contact me go to this Free ebook download page – this is a page where you can get a Free ebook as a thank you for entering your details – I will then get in touch in due time.
